Peyton Manning to the Chiefs? AFC West News and Notes

Kansas City Chiefs News and Notes

The Kansas City Chiefs may be thinking about signing Peyton Manning if the soon to be former Indianapolis Colt plays in 2012. I will cover the possibility of Manning being a Chief and other AFC West News and Notes in this article.

The Chiefs have expressed an interest in giving Matt Cassel some competition and also have plenty of salary cap room to afford Peyton Manning. Remember this franchise gave Joe Montana a job when the 49ers wanted to give the job to Steve Young.

IF Peyton Manning is healthy then he would be a good fit in Kansas City. Even with eroded skills Manning is better than Matt Cassel or Kyle Orton. I believe this would be the end of Cassel in Kansas Cityas it would be difficult for him to be a backup and then start again when Peyton Manning retires.

Peyton Manning to the Chiefs makes sense as they have a decent defense and some good young talent on offense. Also face it the AFC West is up for grabs and Manning wants to make the playoffs and contend for another ring.

In other Kansas City Chiefs news former Oakland Raider cornerback Stanford Routt has signed with the team. Routt had other suitors but decided to join the Chiefs giving them a pretty solid corner who knows the AFC West.

Denver Broncos News and Notes

Coach John Fox has indicated that the Denver Broncos are going to scrap the spread offense in favor of a traditional NFL offense in 2012. Fox also says Tim Tebow will probably be competing with two NFL quarterbacks not yet on the roster. The fact that Tebow will have to function in a real offense does not bode well for his chances of being the starting Denver Broncos quarterback.

Former Jacksonville Jaguar wide receiver Jason Hill has signed with the Denver Broncos. With the Broncos switching both their offense and defense (to a 4-3) look for them to be active in free agency bringing in players who fit their needs.

San Diego Chargers News and Notes

The Chargers seem hesitant to slap the franchise tag on wide receiver Vincent Jackson who has had some issues with the team in the past. You have to wonder if Jackson will sign a new deal then pull the classic “I got paid” fade and not play well.

The San Diego Chargers are said to be concentrating on improving their offense line in the hopes that it will help Phillip Rivers bounce back. The team apparently wants to keep veteran linebacker Takeo Spikes which I think would be a good move for them.

Oakland Raiders News and Notes

The Raiders have promised their fans that the team will have a modern restructuring and seem to headed that way with all the new front office and coaching additions. There is talent on this team if the men in charge of it can get them to play.

New Oakland Raider offensive coordinator Greg Knapp comes over fromHoustonand will bring a more mobile look to the quarterback. Of course the Raiders are saying Carson Palmer can be mobile but he hasn’t really shown that in the past.
